People with head, neck and jaw pain search for relief in any number of ways. While they may experience some relief from physio, chiro, acupuncture or medication, the real cause of the pain is rarely addressed, so the symptoms often come back.
Often sufferers will tend to normalise the pain, i.e. "this is just how I am", or simply lay blame on some small part of their lives, such as working from a computer.
Many will incorrectly self-diagnose, i.e.. "it's just a migraine", and many people find themselves on the medical merry-go-round, where they're passed from clinician to clinician, trialing any number of treatments (valid or otherwise), racking up considerable bills in the process.
Generally, when people have consistent discomfort, it slowly wears them down and starts to influence the decisions they make and how they live their lives.
Therapeutic Injectables, such as Botox and Dysport, can provide extended relief of pain in a safe and reliable manner; particularly for those who experience destructive grinding, clenching, and suffer from head, neck and jaw pain.
With pain relief comes the energy and clarity you need so that we can work together to identify the true source of your discomfort.
In addition to his training as a progressive generalist, and post graduate studies in reconstructive dentistry, Dr Cipriani has completed studies in Canada with PTIFA, The Pacific Training Institute for Facial Aesthetics, with a specific focus on the use of Therapeutic Injectables for use in the head, neck & smile.
This university-level and state-accredited training differs from many 'cosmetic injectors' who have simply undertaken free training provided by manufacturers of the relevant products.
Relaxation of the muscles involved in opening and closing the jaw: Primarily those responsible for grinding and clenching, headaches, and TMJ Disorder symptoms which can present as head and neck pain.
Botulinum toxin (such as Botox and Dysport) has provided long-term relief of TMJ Disorder by reducing the intensity, frequency, and duration of pain episodes. Adverse side effects from BoNT injections are uncommon, mild and transient making it an attractive option for therapy of myofascial (muscles of the face) & associated pain.
Although Therapeutic Injectables such as Botox and Dysport will help many people, they are certainly not the only option available. There may be more appropriate solutions suited to resolving the underlying cause of your problem.
Let's work together to relieve your pain so that we can formulate a plan for your long term health.
The Consultation is the crucial first step where we can appreciate your concerns and goals. It generally also allows Dr Cipriani to let you know how he might be able to help. He will evaluate muscles of the head and neck, your jaw joints and, even, inside the mouth looking for any contributing factors in your bite, or teeth, or airways, that could be a source of problem.
He will always outline what any procedure involves, and can give as much or as little technical detail as you prefer. If appropriate, the procedure can be performed in the same visit, or in the near future.
Botox and Dysport can take three weeks to take full effect, though you will often experience changes much sooner than this.
Review of your treatment is always with Dr Cipriani. Ideally, discussion will also take place to address any broader factors causing your bruxism or head/neck/jaw pain.

Looking at me now you’d never guess that I initially pursued a career in finance. After completing a commerce degree at The University of New South Wales, I realised a life of spreadsheets just wasn’t for me. I wanted a career where I could use my hands. I wanted to push the boundaries of innovation and creativity. I wanted to help people achieve a better quality of life. A career in reconstructive dentistry has allowed me to do all that, and so much more.
Since 2008, I have taken immense pride in designing progressive dental solutions tailored to my clients’ individual needs. My meticulously executed designs focus on elevating people’s confidence, self-expression and long term health.
I consider it a privilege to develop ongoing relationships with my clients and bear witness to their transformations over time. I’ve seen people go from awkwardly holding their hands over their mouths when they smile to counting down the days to a big social event. Watching someone’s self-worth flourish, and knowing I’ve played a role in it, is more rewarding than I could’ve ever imagined.
Never one to rest on my laurels, I am continuously investigating global innovations in reconstructive dentistry to ensure my services are minimally invasive while achieving maximum impact.
Dr David Cipriani is a reconstructive and cosmetic dentist, but he much prefers the term ‘dental artisan’ because it encapsulates his enduring love for the art of dental design.
