Mixing materials to create harmony and health

Ava* felt weighed down by her unattractive old crowns and worn teeth. Her natural bubbly personality was compromised because she was uncomfortable with her appearance.

Solution

We took our usual holistic approach to Ava’s treatment focussing not only on the aesthetics but the structural integrity of her teeth and health of her gums. Her failing crowns were replaced with a mix of ceramic crowns and minimal preparation resin veneers, all within the scope of her ideal smile proportions.

Outcome

Through the use of different materials we achieved harmony of colour, shape and design. Ava’s smile not only looked good but functioned well to support her ongoing dental health.

A transitional smile for a groom’s big day

With his wedding day fast approaching, Chris* wanted to improve the appearance of his smile. He was half way through orthodontic work which meant he needed a transitional option which could be upgraded down the track.

Solution

Our cosmetic smile design used transitional bonding to Chris’s front teeth. This conservative approach improved his smile instantaneously while also providing a framework to guide his remaining orthodontic work. His transitional smile could be kept indefinitely until he was ready to upgrade to a more polished, long term option.

Outcome

Chris was delighted that we were able to achieve his aesthetic goals despite the limitations of time and tooth position. He was able to keep his options open for future dental work. But more importantly, he felt great on his wedding day.

Achieving a smarter look for a straightened smile

After spending a long time straightening his teeth through orthodontics, Andrew* was unhappy with the balance of his natural teeth and felt uneasy when he smiled.

Solution

We used minimal contact resin veneers to change the colour and shape of Andrew’s front teeth. This filled out his front smile without being an obvious cosmetic adjustment.

Outcome

Andrew finally felt that his investment in orthodontics had paid off with his veneers being the icing on the (preferably sugar free) cake. His trimmed and tailored facial hair in his after photo says it all – he no longer feels the need to hide his teeth and smile.

A natural and age-appropriate “tidy up”

When we first met, Faye* struck me as ordered and clean yet charming and lovable. In her early 60s, she felt that her teeth had slowly changed over the years and they no longer reflected her friendly and approachable personality. Her stained front teeth and fillings bothered her and she wanted a “tidy up”.

Solution

We replaced Faye’s old ceramic and resin work with a mix of porcelain and ceramic veneers and crowns, and structurally improved other dentition. Years of previous dental work and age had taken its toll so it was important to balance tooth conservation and the protection of frail teeth.

Outcome

Faye’s restoration resulted in a uniform and age-appropriate style that perfectly reflected her personality. She looked and felt years younger and was looking forward to enjoying her 60s and beyond.

A beaming smile for a 21st birthday

With her 21st birthday party fast approaching, Chloe* wanted to look and feel her best. She hated the appearance of her front filling despite it being replaced only a year earlier. Her self-confidence had deteriorated and she wanted to rediscover her outgoing and confident persona.

Solution

We replaced Chloe’s conservative resin filling with a cosmetic technique that involved a layered approach to replicate nature.

Outcome

The front tooth that had bothered Chloe for over a year now seamlessly integrated with her adjacent teeth. Chloe felt like her old self – confident, comfortable in her skin, and excited to celebrate her milestone birthday.

Fixing a front tooth for a self-conscious teenager

The teenage years are tough enough without having to worry about the appearance of your teeth. Max* was extremely concerned about an old resin filling that had fractured on his front tooth. He felt self-conscious around his school friends and his family and wanted it fixed as soon as possible. Interestingly, the yellow mark on his other front tooth didn’t bother him.

Solution

Understanding his urgency, we got to work with an aesthetic replacement for his failed filling. Our approach was conservative but incredibly successful.

Outcome

Max felt more comfortable about his appearance. He once again started smiling around his family and friends.

Out with the old, in with the new and natural

Anne* wanted to improve the appearance of her smile while maintaining, or revamping, decades old dental work. Instead of a bright, white, ‘Hollywood’ smile, she was after a more natural look that accurately reflected her age and made her feel smarter. After years of procrastinating, Anne decided she was ready for an upgrade.

Solution

Anne needed an age-appropriate restoration for her front teeth that could be matched when upgrading her old dental work. I created a simulated smile which was brought to life by hand-crafted ceramics to convey the depth of colour and detailing in the design. Anne received a porcelain upgrade of her front teeth as well as an old bridge replacement, protection of her remaining tooth structure and improvement of her gum health.

Outcome

Anne achieved a look that replicated nature due to intricate detailing – exactly the look she was after. She also achieved better balance to her gum levels, an improved smile line and a much healthier mouth.

Moving past fear and neglect to achieve long term health

As someone with professionally high standards and an exacting nature, Mel* felt that the appearance of her teeth were at odds with her lifestyle and personality. She had been aware of her growing dental needs for many years but her fear of the dentist had prevented her from seeking help. As a result, her dental health had deteriorated.

Solution

Mel’s treatment focussed on stabilising her whole mouth while achieving the look she was after. Porcelain veneers were used to replace the failing fillings, improve tooth colour and shape, and strengthen the remaining tooth structure. Throughout the process, I rationalised Mel’s fear of the dentist by establishing a trusting relationship. I gave her something she desperately needed, time.

Outcome

Mel was extremely happy to achieve the healthy, bright smile she had been longing for. She felt her appearance finally matched her high standards. By ensuring Mel had a positive and beneficial experience, we were able to lay the foundation for ongoing care that will gradually improve her dental health over time.

From a difficult past to a new beginning

Kate’s* teeth served as a constant reminder of her battle with bulimia. After overcoming the debilitating eating disorder, she wanted her mouth to reflect her healthier lifestyle and brighter future. Due to the effects of acid erosion, Kate’s teeth needed to be restored and protected.

Solution

Prior to our consultation, Kate had been told that all her teeth needed crowns. At her young age, crowns would have compromised the strength of any remaining tooth structure. My conservative approach used resin restoration to protect her exposed teeth. This was one component of a more comprehensive treatment plan.

Outcome

The treatment enabled Kate to keep her teeth safe and avoid root canal therapy while we completed her aesthetic dental work. We erased the reminder of her struggle with bulimia and Kate was able to pursue her goals of improving her bite and smile.

Crafting a more confident future

When I first met 20-year-old Beth*, she felt that her smile didn’t match her outgoing personality. She disliked the shape of her front teeth as well as the smaller size of her lateral incisors. She was self-conscious when smiling and thought cosmetic dental work would significantly improve her confidence.

Solution

We focussed on augmenting Beth’s smile. After creating a 3D simulation, I finetuned the design so it perfectly reflected the look she was after. We then implemented an ultra-conservative treatment plan to reshape Beth’s four front teeth.

Outcome

Beth was thrilled with the result and the progressive approach we used to achieve it. She is no longer self-conscious about her teeth and feels that her more mature smile perfectly reflects her personality.
